The Pegasor PPS sensor has been launched |
The Pegasor Particle Sensor (PPS) has been launched. Production started in March and the first batch of some 10 sensors was delivered to various customers by end of March. Demonstrations at customer sites have already been made and more of these activities are planned during spring/summer 2010. Please contact us if you are interested for a demonstration. PPS measure directly in raw exhaust and thus, it need no external sampling and dilution. The simplicity and robustness of the PPS has been specifically developed to provide environmentalists, hygienists, and authorities to develop realistic management strategies. At a sampling rate of up to 100 Hz, PPS provides exceptional time response. The Pegasor particle sensor operates by electrostatic charging of particles passing through the sensor and then measuring the current caused by the charged particles leaving the sensor. The flow-through design keeps the sensor clean for extended operation and low maintenance. The particle charger is only exposed to clean air. More information is provided in the brochure and our latest newsletter. 2010-04-16 PPS brochure ExIS News, April |

New Topas instruments |
Three new instruments from Topas have been launched. PAP 610. The Process Aerosol Photometer Topas PAP 610 was developed for in-situ-concentration measurement of blow-by aerosols. This measuring instrument is an addition to the Gravimetric Measurement System GMS 141, which is also provided by Topas. The GMS 141 is used for calibrating the PAP 610. GMS 141. Oil mist separators are basic components of a crank case ventilation system. The Topas gravimetric measurement system GMS 141 allows the comfortable detection of oil content in blow-by after oil mist separators with a filter blank sheet or filter cartridge directly on engines or engine test stands. The measuring device combines a simple and rugged assembly with an economic low-cost manual application and handling. The device is controlled via visualisation in a web browser. MBP 116. Performance of filter media is essentially defined by parameters such as differential pressure, gravimetric filtration efficiency and dust holding capacity. The Topas Manual Filter Media Test Rig MBP 116 can be applied to determine these filter parameters at flat sheet materials. This test rig has been designed as universal testing equipment. It combines a simple and robust setup with a manual and therefore cost efficient handling and operation. 2010-04-16 PAP 610 brochure GMS 141 brochure MBP 116 brochure |

Car brakes just as big an environmental problem as studded tyres |
Research at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) shows that particles from vehicle brakes are so small that they could cause the same respiratory diseases as studded tyres. Car brakes contribute as many particles as studded tyres and the car’s exhaust gas emissions do. The particles from a car's brakes are less than 10 µm in size and even go down to nano sizes, which means that they can enter the human body. Particles are generated both during braking and when brakes are not used, since brake pads rest against the discs to keep them clean in the latter case. To date, five publications in Scientific Journals and at International Conferences have been made from this research. In the research at KTH, several particle instruments from ExIS partner Grimm Aerosol has been used to generate test data. More information is provided in the press release (both in English and Swedish) from KTH (25 May). Press release, English Press release, Swedish 2010-06-07 |

Testing centre at Control Sistem |
Control Sistem has developed and set up an innovative Testing Center for both own development purposes and contract research & development commissioned by customers. The Testing Center was inaugurated and made available for testing in the beginning of 2010. The emission room is the outstanding feature of the Testing Center and was fully designed and constructed by Control Sistem using state-of-the-art technology for measuring exhaust gas and particulate on all types of vehicles. Each solution is conceived to respond globally to customer requirements through complete, exclusive operability. All instruments and equipment in the Testing Center has been fully integrated in the Testing Center for control and data logging by using the in-house developed INT9000 software. More information is provided in our June newsletter and in the Testing Center brochure. ExIS Newletter, June 2010 Testing Center brochure 2010-06-18 |

High altitude simulation with EACS from Control Sistem |
The Engine Altitude Condition Simulator (EACS) from Control Sistem is an innovation that allows testing internal combustion engines in a wide range of ambient pressure conditions, from sea level up to 5000 m altitude. EACS offers possibility to perform any kind of stationary or transient test thanks to a very fast and reliable regulation system able to maintain the pressure level within ± 10mb of the set point, in steady state or transient conditions. EACS has been launched on the market and has already received great interest from major European car and engine manufacturers as well as component suppliers. Customer demonstration of the EACS system can now be made in the new testing centre (see note below) of Control Sistem in Pianezza outside of Turin. Contact us on phone (+46-8-647 45 99) or e-mail to schedule a demonstration. More information is provided in our June newsletter and in the technical description. Control Sistem’s full-flow CVS sampling system is now available |
The CVS-R03 full-flow constant volume sampling system (CVS) from Control Sistem for light-duty test cells has—until now—not been actively marketed by ExIS on the Nordic market. Now, this product has been included in the ”standard” range of products from Control Sistem and thus, we can now provide this measurement system for our customers. CVS-R03 use a variable-speed positive displacement pump (PDP) for flow control and it can be fully integrated in the test cell by e.g. using Control Sistem’s own software INT9000 for this purpose. CVS-R03 is available in four different sizes. More information about CVS-R03 is available in the brochure and the technical description. CVS-R03 brochure CVS-R03 description 2010-08-23 |

Control Sistem introduces new products for dynamometer testing |
Three new products intended for dynamometer testing have been introduced as ”standard” products by from Control Sistem and are now also available on the Nordic market. These products are: DYNOsaur is a 48’’ single roller chassis dynamometer for light-duty vehicle and light commercial vehicle (up to 5 500 kg) testing. DYNOsur conforms with European and US standards. The DBS automation system (see below) is used to control the system and integration in the test cell is accomplished by the INT9000 software also developed by control Sistem. xPA is a pedal actuator for automated testing at chasssis dynamometers and in other test rigs. The xPA is bed on the same technology that has already been used in the driving robot DREAMS. DBS is an automation unit available in three different versions for engine, roller and transmission test benches. DBS is an interface to control electric motors, throttle, speed, torque, temperatures etc. More information about DYNOsaur and xPA is available in the brochure and the technical description via the links below. Information abut the DBS will follow shortly. DYNOsaur description xPA brochure 2010-08-23 |

Dekati’s new ELPI+ instrument gain much interest at the IAC conference |
The new ELPI+™ (pronounced ELPI plus) instrument from Dekati was launched at the International Aerosol Conference (IAC) in Helsinki on Monday, August 30. The interest from the conference delegates is great and the Dekati booth has hardly ever had so many visitors before. Two scientific papers on the ELPI+ will be presented at IAC on Thursday and Friday, respectively. Construction of the ELPI+ has been simplified, yet maintaining the unit as robust as the previous ELPI model to endure operation even in harsh conditions. At the same time, the weight of the ELPI+ unit has been reduced to 22 kg, making it more easily transportable. ELPI+ has more measurement channels, improved sensitivity, higher time resolution (10Hz) and several new features compared to the “old” ELPI. The impactor has fewer parts and is much more convenient to handle and easier to clean. During the development phase of more than two years, ELPI+ has been field tested thoroughly by Dekati. This has been accomplished by conducting several measurement campaigns, where ELPI+ and the previous ELPI have been used in parallel. ELPI+ is now ready for ordering. The first units will be delivered by end of 2010. Delivery time is currently about three months but will be shortened when production is ramped up. Under a transitional period, the “old” ELPI will be produced in parallel with ELPI+. Supply of spares and support for the old ELPI will continue for many years to come.
